Jason was born in Bells, TN. As a high school musician, he received the John Phillips Sousa Award. He was also the 1998 recipient of the Joe Kincaid Memorial Scholarship for Musicians.  He later earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with an English minor from Lambuth University in Jackson, TN and his Master of Arts in Education from Bethel University in McKenzie, TN. He has taught instrumental music privately and in the classroom since his graduation. Most recently, he served as the music teacher and band director at Haywood Middle School in Brownsville, TN. In August of 2016, Jason became the West TN Educational Field Representative for Amro Music Stores based in Memphis, TN. Currently, he is pursuing his Ed. S. degree with Austin Peay State University. 

In 2004, Jason wrote the script and songs for a two-act Christmas musical entitled Beyond Bethlehem- performed twice locally.  His new musical,  Crawlspace,  written with composer Matt Glickstein, was premiered with a series of performances at Tennessee Tech University in November 2022.  In July 2023, Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga launched the "Brave New Works- New Musical Develpment Series" with two staged readings of Crawlspace. ETC also staged a full produciton of the show in December 2023. Jason's new children's musical, Jo & the Gigalytes (written with composer Matt Glickstein), will premier this June with performances by the The Lanaʻi Academy of Performing Arts in Hawaii.  

Jason's 2018 piece for concert band,  "Palace of the Snow Queen", is published by GPG Music, and his 2020 piece,  "On a Starry Night"  is published by Alfred Music.  The latter was performed at the 2021 Midwest Clinic in Chicago (an international band and orchestra conference) by the Eastern Wind Symphony.
